Luftex Expansion Boosts Services and Training Capabilities in Texas

Luftex Expansion Strengthens Aftermarket Services and Training Capabilities in Texas
Lufkin, TX – August 14, 2025 – Sumitomo Drive Technologies is proud to announce the completion of a significant expansion at its Lufkin-based Luftex facility, adding more than 7,500 square feet of purpose-built office and training space to support the company’s long-term strategic goals and its growing aftermarket service capabilities.

This investment reinforces Luftex’s role as a vital hub in Sumitomo Drive Technologies’ North American operations, equipping the team with the space and tools needed to deliver exceptional service, innovation and support to industrial customers nationwide.

“Our expansion in Lufkin is more than just additional square footage — it’s a direct investment in people, knowledge and customer support,” said Jim Solomon, CEO of Sumitomo Drive Technologies. “By creating a space that fosters collaboration and training, we’re enabling our team to provide best-in-class aftermarket service.”

The new wing includes —

  • Seven private offices and open seating for 14 team members

  • Two Microsoft Teams-integrated conference rooms

  • A 40-seat training room to support Luftex’s renowned Gear School

  • Dedicated break room and upgraded restrooms

  • Open collaboration areas for cross-functional planning and innovation

This expansion enables Luftex to offer world-class training programs, reverse engineering services and advanced gearbox repair solutions — all under one roof. Whether on-site or in-house, Luftex technicians can inspect, rebuild, retrofit or replace industrial gearboxes, even without original documentation.

To commemorate the expansion, Luftex will host an invite-only grand opening event on August 14. Guests will include CEO Jim Solomon, city officials and representatives from Japan-based Sumitomo Heavy Industries PTC Group, with guided tours and presentations highlighting the facility’s new capabilities.
