Over the past 50 years, SMA has built a reputation as an industry leader. SMA has grown from a single location in Carlstadt, New Jersey to 18 locations in the United States, Canada and Latin America. Through these expansions, SMA continues to foster rich relationships with customers and surrounding community members.
On Friday, June 3, 2016, the headquarters in Chesapeake, Virginia hosted over 400 guests, including dignitaries from Sumitomo Heavy Industries, Ltd. (SHI), top management from around the world, government officials, key customers and 250 local and out-of-state employees. Events from that day comprised of a wonderful lunch, inspiring comments from SMA's top leaders- Mr. Betsukawa, Mr. Nishimura and Ronald J. Smith, President & CEO of SMA and special presentations by government officials from the Commonwealth of Virginia and City of Chesapeake.
"Attracting and retaining the best people with strong personal character and passion has been the key to Sumitomo's success," said Ron Smith. "It's the people that can differentiate a company from its competitors, and this is definitely true at SMA. I really value these personal characteristics; they support one of our core values which is respect for human dignity. Respect goes a long way to motivating a work force and creating customer loyalty."
"It was a tremendous day that went better than expected. We are honored to be part of the first 50 years, and excited by what we plan to accomplish in the next 50."
