Our intention is to remain in operation, when possible, to do so safely.

Operational Status for Tuesday, December 9th, 2025
- Chesapeake, VA | Facility will open at 8 AM. Employees whose standard shift begins prior to that time should report at 8 AM.
- Verona, VA | Open for Normal Operations
- Lufkin, TX | Open for Normal Operations
- Glendale Heights, IL | Open for Normal Operations

You can obtain our operating status through a number of additional channels, as shown below. As always, please connect with your Supervisor should you have any issues preventing you from receiving an update.
- Watch Local News Outlets | Tune in to local news outlets for operational updates--typically at the bottom of the screen.
- Call the SMA Emergency Weather Line | Call 757.485.3355, then select option 8 once the automated operator answers and listen to the recorded message. Should there be a change in normal operations, this message will be updated by 5:15 am to advise you of the status of operations in Chesapeake.
- Opt-In for Operational Text Messages | You may opt to receive a text from the SMA text messaging system if there is a change in normal operation times. You may enroll for this service by submitting a Help Desk ticket to IT.
- If you have enrolled in this service but do not receive a text, please submit a Help Desk ticket and use option 1 or 3
