Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have questions about the Paramax® Drive? Below are some of our most commonly asked questions or you can view our Support area under Knowledge for more frequently asked questions and answers.
What type of special motors can I order with my Paramax?
Special voltage, dust-proof, humidity-proof, high-temp, special shaft, CSA and NEMA standard conformance options are available.
What advantage does tooth form have on ratings?
A gear tooth, such as that of Paramax, with a 25-degree pressure angle provides for greater torque transmission due to its wider dedendum. It is also important in minimizing tooth breakage due to shock loading.
What are some of the thermal limitations of Paramax?
While all gearboxes maintain thermal limitations, our new Paramax 9000 series has been improved to provide an 87% higher thermal rating over the previous series. This results from optimizing the units' fan cooling system as well as the airflow over the surface.
How can I be sure that a Paramax is right for my application?
Please consult a Sumitomo Sales Representative. They will review your application and provide an optimum Paramax selection.
Can I order ductile iron or fabricated steel housing for Paramax?
Yes, but these are options, and require additional design lead time.
What is the maximum torque capacity of a standard Paramax design?
Up to 5 million inch-pounds, or more than 550 kiloNewtons
Is there an integral backstop option for Paramax?
Yes, many options exist for integral backstop; consult the factory for design details.
Are there single stage ratios available for Paramax®?
Yes, 1.25:1 thru 5:1 in the parallel shaft configuration; and 1.6:1 thru 4:1 in the right angle shaft configuration.
