Replacing the "Waste" in Waste Management
Problem
This customer operates eight primary belt conveyors that receive all incoming waste from trash trucks at their waste-to-energy facility in Chester, PA. Each conveyor line is equipped with a competitor gearbox. This company attempted to transition Covanta to their new-style gearbox; however, this option was not a direct drop-in replacement. Additionally, the updated gearbox came with a higher cost and a longer lead time.

Solution
We had recently conducted a Lunch & Learn session on retro steel foot options at the Motion Sharon Hill branch, so the topic was still fresh in their minds. Shortly after, a representative reached out to us to visit the facility and discuss the requirements for converting Covanta to a steel foot Cyclo solution.
In a short timeframe, we were able to quote a steel foot 6245 unit with dual Gits oil gauges, allowing it to be mounted on a 40-degree side angle—both left and right. The unit also includes a Toshiba motor with a shovel base.
We successfully designed and shipped this unit within 10 weeks, significantly outperforming the competitor's quoted lead time of 16–18 weeks. In addition, our pricing came in $5,000 lower than theirs as well. To date, we have replaced 7 out of the 8 primary belt drive systems.
