Weigh Belt Conveyor Drive for the Cement Industry: BBB4
Challenge
The customer has four mills with two weigh belt feeders in each facility. The feeders help to maintain and adjust the mixing rates of key cement components into the mill as required by customer of the mills.
The customer was using the competitor's offset parallel shaft gearbox drives that utilized inverter duty motors. The customer was experiencing issues with the unreliable rate at which the drives were feeding components into the mill. The reduction ratio of the competitor's gearboxes was too low, and the facility was unable to turn down the existing motors' speed far enough to maintain an accurate and constant throughput needed for the proper mix. The equipment hindered the facility's product quality and reliability.
Solution
The BBB4 was the perfect fit for this application. It allowed the customer to achieve a high reduction ratio in a compact package, given that the largest part of the reduction in the BBB4 is achieved through Cyclo gears. The BBB4 features 46 standard ratios and 87 optional ratios.
Results
The customer has been an ENERGY STAR partner since 1996 and was honored with the ENERGY STAR SUSTAINED EXCELLENCE Award for its long-term commitment to energy efficiency. By utilizing the BBB4, the customer reduced electrical costs and was able to operate the gearbox closer to the 100% efficiency level. The success of the BBB4 promoted the customer's efficiency and further solidified the ENERGY STAR partnership.
